Jerry Lincoln has a problem his Sioux Falls IT consulting business has more work than one man can handle. Luckily, that means he can hire some help. Jerry just hopes his new employee, John Black Raven, ends up being more helpful than distracting—but John’s deep eyes and long hair are very distracting.
John came to town for an education and a chance at a life he couldn’t have on the reservation, but what’s important to him now is getting a job and keeping it. Six months ago, his sister died, and now her children are in foster care. Despite having the law on his side, John can’t get custody—can’t even see his niece and nephew.
As Jerry and John grow closer, John discovers he doesn’t have to struggle alone. Jerry helps him win visitation rights and provides much-needed support. Yet their victories aren’t without setbacks. Child Services is tangled up with money, politics, and red tape, and Native American children are their bread and butter. But John and Jerry are determined to fight the good fight and to win—in more ways than one.

Loving this cover! I feel like I’ve had this one on my TBR list forever, because I love this author and hello….hot Native American’s? Yes please! So, here we have Jerry, a consulter for some tech stuff with coding and all that stuff I know nothing about so I can’t tell you the actual name for it…. But, with more work than he could handle on his own, with a suggestion and help from a good friend, he decided to hire someone that could help him out. He found two prospects, both were qualified, and things happen in which he could hire them both…. Only problem, one of them was John Black Raven, and he was extremely attracted to him. To the point of distraction.Fortunately, it worked out and while working together and getting to know one another, Jerry learns of a family matter that John needs help with. His niece and nephew has been taken by child services when their mother died and because of their heritage, they aren’t likely to be given to John, because they earn the state money being in care. I’m not sure how true this is, or if things like that do indeed happen, but I was really hoping for more karmic justice with the terrible state worker who actually lied and deceived to keep John from his family. When his sister passed, she'd wanted John to have the kids…. The social worker was awful though and she fought him every step of the way. That’s where Jerry came in.
Jerry wasn’t having it with the social worker and helped John as much as he could. How could you not fall for someone like that…. That’s exactly what John did, and Jerry, seeing how much he loved his niece and nephew and how badly he wanted them to be with him… it was impossible not to fall for him too!
Overall, it was just a really cute read with a really sweet ending… and I’m looking forward to reading the next one!
4 stars for me.

The Good Fight edition by Andrew Grey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I'm a fairly straight woman who wanted to see what the fuss was about over m/m romance. This book wasn't for me, but I can see it appealing to others. I found the story slow to start, the information about the main character's work excruciatingly boring and laborious. (It went on and on and on and on--who cares?!?! Get to the romance!!!) But once John came onto the scene, things started picking up! JOHN WAS SUPER HOT!!!
I'm very glad I tried this book, even if I didn't finish. I would absolutely try this author again.
Aloha
I just finished this book and couldn't put it down. What a beautiful story that touched my heart. Both main characters are extremely appealing. You could fall in love with them both. I liked the Native American background and also bringing the plight of some of what's happening out into the open.
The connection and love that grows between Jerry and John is beautiful. Very real and heartfelt.
I liked the way Jerry stood up to the grumpy neighbor and the awful state worker. I loved the gentleness of John. What a beautiful combination.
The story flowed well and was uplifting. Thank you. I loved it. I'd highly recommend this story. Aloha Meg Amor. -)
Others have written about the plot and such so I'll just jot down my thoughts.
Jerry lost his grandfather and lives in the house he inherited. It's a lonely life with working at home. His only bright spots are when he meets up with his friend Peter. As the story progresses Jerry becomes more involved in the community, in helping his co-workers, and in his budding relationship with John. It was a gradual process, one of growth for John. The best thing is when the story ended you knew John was in a better place, more accepting of life, and having so much to look forward to.
I don't know anything about North Dakota and Indian politics and policies with the US government. . . . If what's written is true or just a fiction. It made for an interesting storyline. - Dan's Wife
I thought the injustice of what the Native American is experiencing with the Department of Human Services was heartbreaking. I have lived in the south all of my life, so I have seen some racial injustice. But I've never lived near a reservation, so I've not understood what the Native Americans were experiencing. I've since read about food deserts and other factors that continue to contribute to the hardships many of these people face. I appreciate this author making me aware. I also liked the love story. I thought at times that Jerry was way too good to be true - I mean I don't remember him having any flaws really. John's character actually had more dimension and maybe that was because of all the hardships he had faced and overcome. I thought it was a interesting story.
A rich, full romance, along with a story of social injustice for kids in foster care in South Dakota. Jerry is a computer business owner, who is caring, and helpful, but right now, as his business expands, he needs help, so, he is hiring. John/Akecheta is a Native American with computer skills, looking for work. Jerry hires two men, because at the last minute, he got another contract. Jerry is also concerned that John will become a distraction, because the beautiful, long haired man is occupying Jerrry's fantasies. Work is going well, and the men become friends. John is amidst the long process of trying to gain custody of his dead sister's two kids, but the system is rigged. Friends, tribal council and others all try to help by joining the fight. I liked these men as they move forward. We get super hot sexiness, along with an informative story, and happy ending. It's a great read. ENJOY !
Spoiler- After a couple of times they could have started calling the child worker by her name, instead of repeatedly calling her a name.
